Vastenactie- Project Big business for Small people

The initiative for this project was taken by MBC and CCT in response to the extremely high levels of poverty and unemployment among families in the target areas. The activities are a continuation of the extensive cooperation between the two organisations. CCT has extensive experience working with savings groups in large parts of the country and is constantly looking for ways to improve the business performance of its target groups. MBC’s approach has caught their attention with this project helping to solidify the partnership between both organizations, complementing each other’s strengths.

The Target Group

The target group are the people who have made the choice to participate in CCT’s savings groups and are looking for ways to get out of poverty. CCT operates in all parts of the Philippines. MBC and CCT have already collaborated on pilot projects in several locations in the Philippines, including Manila, Cebu, Minidanao and Mindoro.

The Project

The objective of the project is to contribute to improving the living conditions of extremely poor and vulnerable families in the Philippines through self-generating opportunities. This is achieved by:

  • Creating profitable and sustainable businesses by and for poor and vulnerable people, mainly women. The working area is the slums of Metro Manila, Mindanao and Visayas. The training and setting up of the companies will take place on the basis of own active participation and responsibility. MBC will coach these companies together with local partners. In addition, investing in the companies is combined with personal savings through participation in savings groups.
  • Equip CCT in business development by using the MBC method, in the interest of CCT beneficiaries
