In the hills of Mindoro, an island a few hours from Manila, people of different hill tribes live with the collective name “Mangyan”. One of these tribes is the Tawbuid tribe (pronounced: Tauw-boe-wit). The tribesman Timyo is a 41-year-old farmer. His village in the hills near Safa can only be reached on foot.

Timyo has followed the Start Your Business Training. He wanted to start a banana selling business. As a farmer, it was always difficult for him to negotiate a good price for his bananas from the intermediary at the port. Timyo and some friends decided to sell the bananas themselves to buyers in Batangas, the port city on the other island. With the help of the MBC Philippines, he made a business plan, with which he could apply for a loan. The loan was granted and Timyo bought a jeepney to transport the bananas to Batangas.
In the meantime, the company has started to run better and the loan is gradually being repaid. Timyo and his colleagues make some profit that they can use to further invest in the company. Their families also benefit from the income
