Rice, as we know it, is a staple of all of Asia. It is one of the most important agricultural crops in the country. In Barangay Bato – Biliran, the project leader Crisdel Dimakiling told about the rice processing plant that their group started operating in December 2018. NMK Rice Trading Group evolved from the SYB and GYB training courses that MBC provided in collaboration with PhilRads from July to August 2018.
Their product
They buy brown rice from the farmers, process it through sun drying, then grind it and finally sell this rice. They look forward to this work again during the rice season from March to April, the highlight of the year for them! In addition, the group also sets aside rice for their own consumption, now as something they have produced themselves!. Ptra. Crisdel noted with enthusiasm that the members who used to eat NFA rice are now financially able to eat commercial grade rice. And better rice, better quality of life…..
Life changing
In addition to the accessibility of food, members see great value in the things they have learned from the training sessions. They now know the basic ins and outs of starting and running a business. Financial literacy is key to bringing about change in their finances. Some of them have just started saving money, investing, managing well, and so on and so forth. As a result, some have left their lending groups, as they now have enough of their own to meet their needs. These changes apply not only to the way they run the business, but also to how they manage their household.
