From working abroad to a local tailor

Josefina Bolis worked abroad, but her desire was to be able to stay with her family in the Philippines. So when her daughter Jo Ann heard about MBC’s business training in partnership with Bukang LIwayway, she jumped at the opportunity to join. There she learned how to set up a business, how to deal with finances and about marketing strategy.

A business focused on growth

When Josefina came back to the Philippines, she used the business plan developed by her daughter Jo Ann, invested in a sewing machine and started a local tailor shop at home. As the business began to grow, they invested in more sewing machines and rented retail space near their home. This allowed her company to take more orders. Now they have three employees, and with more orders she calls in mothers from their community. Josefina lets them do the simple edits that can easily be done in their own home. Not only does this give them an extra income, but she teaches new skills to those who would like to work in the process.

The simple desire to stay in the Philippines allowed the mother-and-daughter team to start a local business and help their community grow.

Dreaming the future

Dreaming the future Looking ahead, they both dream of growing the business, being a supplier themselves and not just a subcontractor. Their plan is to hire more local employees so they can focus more on management. Their desire is also to share with them the love that God has for them through contact with the people they work with.
